Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation, Incorporated is a "not for profit and no stock" foundation registered in the Republic of the Philippines.Negros Island, Philippines

NISARD's mission is to promote, encourage and provide support for the implementation of sustainable agriculture and rural development on Negros Island in order to reduce the poverty incidence of small landholders and rural workers.

More than 30% of Negros' population are currently living in poverty. This translates to 900,000 children and adults.

NISARD's suggestion was to adopt sustainable, organic agriculture and rural development as a means to improve local conditions.

This choice is perceived to provide the best framework for small landholders and farm workers to wrestle their way out of the poverty spiral. It is founded on extensive preliminary research and thorough analysis of the current developmental status of the island.
Gov. George P. Arnaiz, Gov. Joseph G Maranon, and the President of the Republic of the Philippines: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The two provincial Governments of Negros Island and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines support NISARD in its pursuit.

Governor Arnaiz (Negros Oriental) and Governor Maranon (Negros Occidental) recently provided the NISARD Foundation with seed capital to begin the agricultural revolution which will result in making local farms profitable, diverse and ecologically sustainable.

The goal is to transform Negros Island into the "Organic Island of South East Asia"--the long-term vision of the two Governors--and one Nisard proudly supports.

Negros Island The foundation will be one of the catalysts to achieve this vision. It will start in small ways, focusing on promoting local knowledge and farmer's involvement in all aspects of the agricultural process - from seeds to soil, from processing to marketing.

NISARD will ask the Negros Island people to change attitudes and work practices and their Government to promote and support that change.

Together we will listen, cooperate and actively involve the rural sector in bringing about that which is necessary to reduce and ultimately eliminate poverty on Negros Island.
